Programs

We offer the following programs:

  • Infants (6 weeks – 12 months)
  • Toddlers (1-2 years old)
  • PreK (3-4 years old)
  • NC PreK
  • Summer programs for children thru 5th grade

We operate from 6:30 am to 6 pm Monday – Friday.

We provide breakfast from 6:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and an afternoon snack from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. We participate in the N.C. Child And Adult Care Food Program providing nutritious and balanced meals and snacks as specified by USDA guidelines.

Hattie Daniels Day Care Center is operated by the non-profit Wilson Educational Opportunities Inc. Our governance includes a Board of Directors and Center Director.

We provide:

  • A safe, healthy environment for a child while he/she is away from his/her home and in our care.

Our History

October 23rd, 1949

The Golden Rule Kindergarten Founded

In the home of Rev. Mrs. Hattie Luvenia Owens Daniels, The Golden Rule Kindergarten was founded. It was located on South Wainwright St, Wilson, NC. Many years later, the school was moved to a house belonging to the Church of God.

1974

The Golden Rule Kindergarten School was informed it could no longer continue to operate.

1974

Golden Rule Kindergarten Closes

The Golden Rule Kindergarten School was ordered to close its facility due to the inability to meet licensing requirements.

Fall, 1974

Wilson Educational Opportunity Inc. Was Created

A non-profit organization was composed of parents, professional men, social workers, and concerned citizens of Wilson County.

October, 1974

New Facility Located

The state licensing board inspected a selected portion of Eastern North Carolina Hospital and approval was given to operate a day care center with a capacity of 116 children.

1974

First Director Hired

Wilson Educational Opportunity Inc. retained Mrs. Rashmi Nakhre as Director

Fall, 1974

Name Changed

The Golden Rule Kindergarten’s name was changed to Hattie Daniels Day Care Center.

May, 1976

Certification Received

Hattie Daniels received certification by the Department of Human Resources and was the only certified center providing services to low-income families in Wilson County.

1986

Land Acquired

The Board of Directors purchased a three acre tract of land on Lipscomb Rd.

2005

New Director Hired

Mrs. Wanda Mitchell became the Director of Hattie Daniels Day Care Center.
